A St Helens woman has appeared in court accused of stabbing her partner to death.

Amanda O’Shaughnessy, 28, was arrested following an incident in the early hours of Sunday (December 7) in which David Butterworth, 38, was knifed.

Police were called to a house on Tilbrook Drive, Peasley Cross, by ambulance crews at about 1.15am.

Mr Butterworth, who was outside the property when paramedics arrived, had sustained a serious knife wound.

O’Shaughnessy, also of Tilbrook Drive, was held on suspicion of assault but then re-arrested on suspicion of murder when Mr Butterworth succumbed to his injury.

A Home Office post mortem found that the victim died as a result of a single stab wound.

O’Shaughnessy was subsequently charged and appeared before St Helens Magistrates’ Court yesterday.

The case was transferred to Liverpool Crown Court where she is due to appear tomorrow.

The victim’s family issued a brief tribute to Mr Butterworth, which read: “After the tragic loss of our son David, who will be sadly missed, the family request privacy to grieve him.

“David, you will always be in our hearts.”
