Local favourites The Swampstompers will be raising the roof at The Sportsmans Inn in Duke Street, St Helens. Barry Dooley (guitar vocals), John Kelly (drums) Paul O’Neil (bass) and Eric Burke (vocals, harmonica) will be serving up an electrifying mix of hard driving rock and blues.

Saturday, September 21

Newton-le-Willows Gardeners’ Association will be holding its annual Grand Flower and Vegetable Show at Penkford School, Wharf Road, off Common Road, Newton, between 2pm and 4.15pm.

There will be competitive classes for flowers, pot plants, vegetables, fruit, photography, art, cookery chutney, jellies and jam as well as plant stalls, sale of spring bulbs, book stall, tombola, and raffle. Refreshments also available. Admission is free.

The next meeting of the St Helens Group of the National Rheumatoid Arthritis Society will be between 6.30pm and 8pm at St Helens Town Hall.

Sankey Canal Restoration Society will hold its next meeting at St Patrick’s Parish Centre in Marian Road, Earlestown, starting at 7.30pm. The speaker will be Tom Ferguson on ‘The Mersey Forest and Green Infrastructure’.

Sunday, September 29

The Friends of Taylor Park holds its annual kite festival between noon and 4pm. There are a host of family events and admission is free.

Monday, October 14

Queens Park Local History Group meets on the second Monday of the month in the lounge of the Sprayhurst Social Club in Boundary Road. The speaker will be Arthur Jennion on ‘Post in Prescot and St Helens’ starting at 7pm.

Friday, October 18

The Helen Marie Charity presents a fashion show at Wesley Methodist Church in Corporation Street from 1.30pm.

Tickets are priced £1 and are available on the door or from Bonmarche in the Hardshaw Centre

Every Monday

Haydock Judo Club meets every Monday at the CB club in Haydock between 5pm and 6pm for five to seven-year-olds; and the following hour for eight to 10-year-olds.
