Emergency services have closed Haresfinch Road near St Helens town centre after a collision involving two pedestrians earlier today.

Police were called to the scene at 12.25pm after reports a red Vauxhall Corsa had hit a wall.

Two pedestrians were hurt in the collision.

However, it is believed they escaped with relatively minor injuries.

The driver was spoken to by officers at the scene but has not been arrested, a police spokesman said.

The injured pedestrians were taken to Whiston Hospital for treatment.

The road remains closed while inquiries continue.

Motorists are being urged to find an alternative route.
