Police, who had closed several roads around the town hall, have arrested the protester.

A council spokesman said: “The man who was staging a protest on the roof of St Helens Town Hall has now come down and has been arrested by police.
“An inspection of the town hall roof is due to take place shortly to assess the damage caused during the incident.
“Subject to the inspection, we hope the wedding scheduled to take place in the town hall this afternoon can still take place as planned.
