UPDATED: East Lancs Road re-opens following early morning crash

Police have re-opened the Liverpool-bound section of the East Lancs Road in St Helens after a smash this morning (Friday) involving two cars.

Traffic built up on the dual carriageway around the scene of the collision, which happened near the Game Bird pub between B5203 Catchdale Moss Lane, Sadler’s Lane and Knowsley Lane.

Polce re-opened the East Lancs Road at 10.30am, two hours after the crash.

A council spokesman said: “Motorists are being warned to avoid the Liverpool-bound carriageway of the A580 East Lancashire Road at Windle Island (intersection with the A570) in St Helens following an accident on the A580 in Knowsley this morning.

“This carriageway is currently closed, with Liverpool-bound traffic only able to turn left (towards St Helens) or right (towards Ormskirk)on the A570.”
