TWO people, including a pregnant woman, were hospitalised following a two-car crash on the East Lancs Road.
Emergency crews were called to the A580 - near to the junction with Houghtons Lane, Eccleston - at 2.15pm on Sunday (July 21).
Firefighters used hydraulic cutting equipment to remove the roof of one of the vehicles before helping paramedics to carefully move a man into a waiting ambulance via a long board.
The casualty was taken to University Hospital Aintree for treatment after suffering a head injury.
His injuries were so serious that the hospital was placed on standby prior to his arrival.
A pregnant woman had already been taken to Whiston Hospital by the time fire crews from Eccleston and Whiston arrived at the scene.
The extent of her injuries is not known.
Firefighters remained at the scene until after 3pm.
