Trust falls short of MRSA target

DESPITE meeting all other national key indicators, the St Helens and Knowsley Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust failed to hit MRSA infection targets in the last year.

Given a target of five MRSA cases or less for 2010/11, the trust fell just short with a total of eight cases - despite meeting clostridium difficile (CDT) infection targets.

Chief executive, Ann Marr, explained at last week’s AGM, however, that two of the eight cases recorded in the last 12 months related to the same patient.
