GLOWING tributes have been paid to a long-serving foster carer who has died following a long cancer battle.
Allan Crook, alongside his devoted wife Yvonne, had helped to care for around 20 St Helens children since 2005.
Beverley Munro, the council’s fostering team manager said: “Allan was a charming, down-to-earth man with a genuine passion to provide a nurturing home for vulnerable children. The team have always spoken extremely highly of the couple.
“He will be very sadly missed by us, and all who knew him.”
Deputy council leader Barrie Grunewald said: “It is always a huge loss when one of our carers passes away, particularly when it is someone who has been so influential in encouraging others to apply. We hope Allan’s legacy will continue to inspire others to follow the same path.”
And Rachael Suthurst, who filmed a You Can Foster TV recruitment advert with Allan and Yvonne, said: “I have never met a more lovely couple and was so very sad to hear the news. Allan was so passionate about recruiting more carers. The fact that Yvonne wishes to continue with the advertisements featuring herself and her husband is awe-inspiring. They will be a fitting tribute to an exemplary carer.”
