Town hall chiefs in St Helens say they will take urgent legal steps to remove a group of travellers from a borough park.

Up to six caravans parked up on land close to a children's playground in Haresfinch Park yesterday evening.

Several parents reported children leaving the play area on the group's arrival

Today, a council spokesman said officers were awareness of the group.

He added: "The council is aware of the issue and is taking the necessary legal steps to have the group removed from Haresfinch Park as soon as possible."
