THIS is the scene which greeted rush-hour motorists at one of St Helens’ busiest roads.
The huge tailback was caused by the start of roadworks on the A58 Blackbrook Road between Boardmans Lane and Chain Lane.
Temporary traffic lights have been set up to allow the improvement work to take place.
A council spokesman estimated the project would be finished within 12 weeks.
Once completed, the work will include:
nTraffic signals at the junction of Blackbrook Road and Ashurst Drive.
nUpgrading the existing single Pelican crossing to a dual Puffin crossing.
nUpgrading the pedestrian facilities within the existing traffic signals at the junction of Blackbrook Road and Chain Lane.
n Other minor associated improvements to the existing facilities on the route, including resurfacing of the carriageway.
The work is being carried out by King Construction and restrictions are being imposed on working hours to minimise disruption.
