MEET the woman charged with championing St Helens business.
Tracy Mawson enjoyed a varied career in both the private and public sector before joining St Helens Chamber as their new director of business service.
A self-confessed local business champion, she joins the chamber from her previous role at the North West Regional Development Agency where she worked as head of strategy.
She picks up a packed portfolio which includes responsibilities for tailoring the chamber’s services to its business members.
“I am looking forward to working with real businesses, finding out more about some of the many interesting and unusual businesses that make up the Membership of the Chamber and working out ways in which we can support them to be even more successful,” she said.
“My previous experience has helped me to really understand the North West and how important St Helens is in the region.
“It also made me appreciate some of the issues that are common across the region, such as how we keep talent in the North West, rather than losing it to other areas and how we encourage continued investment.
“This is a really difficult time for business, with the economy bumping along the bottom, but things may be beginning to pick up and I am looking forward to working to bring more public sector finance into the area. I believe it is desperately important that central Government continues to support business growth and entrepreneurship.”
She added: “There are certain issues that we can see are very important to businesses and we want to be able to support our members in tackling them.
“For example, rising energy bills – we want to help businesses to operate more efficiently and make sure they are getting the best deals. There has also been an explosion in social marketing and we want to support our Members in harnessing that, if it is relevant to their business.”
