A MAN suffered a fractured jaw after being attacked in the street.

The 25-year-old victim was walking towards a taxi rank on Westfield Street at around 4am on September 20 when the offender approached him from behind and punched him.

The victim was knocked to the floor and the offender ran off along an alleyway in the direction of NatWest Bank on Ormskirk Street.

The victim was taken to hospital where he received treatment for a fractured jaw and misaligned teeth. He has since been discharged.

The incident was reported to the Merseyside Police at around 7.30pm on the same day and they are now appealing for anyone who witnessed the unprovoked attack.

Detective Constable Mark Williams said: “This was a senseless and unprovoked attack on a young man who had been walking along the road with a friend.

“Although it was in the early hours of the morning it was close to a taxi rank and it is possible someone might have seen something. I would appeal to anyone with information to call the police as you could really help the investigation.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact St Helens CID on 0151 777 6013 or Crimestoppers, anonymously on 0800 555111.
