A DAD has told of his horror after a thief stole his wife’s car - with their four-month-old baby inside.

At around 5.20pm last Tuesday (January 8), a woman stopped her car along Weaver Avenue, Rainhill, to move some wheelie bins from the road.

But, as she did, a man got into her car and drove off, while the woman’s baby son was in the backseat.

The victim’s husband said: “She ran after the car screaming that her child was inside but couldn’t do anything to stop the thief getting away. Her piercing screams alerted residents who called the police.

“We have been really shaken up by this and want everyone to be aware of the traps set by these people. As well as bins, they have been known to use prams or anything else they can get their hands on.

“If we can save just one family from going through what we are experiencing it will be worthwhile.”

Fortunately, the baby was found inside the car, uninjured, in nearby Severn Road a short time later.

The thief had, however, stolen the lady’s handbag and her Samsung Galaxy II phone, which was full of photos of her baby’s first Christmas.

Police have examined CCTV from the area and conducted enquiries with nearby residents. The car will also be forensically examined.

At this stage, it is unclear whether the wheelie bins were deliberately placed in the roadway or not.

The thief was slim, aged 16-19, clean shaven and was wearing a black hooded top with white lettering on the front and a black baseball cap.

He is thought to have short brown hair with short spikes.
