A property advisor is urging residents not to delay in getting on the housing ladder as now is the ideal time to buy in St Helens.

Lisa Seton, who works for Morris Homes at its Waterside Village development, says the town’s housing market is currently extremely strong with high demand.

Prospective buyers are also being urged to take the plunge as energy-efficient new homes can cut bills and there is financial assistance is available for those looking to get their own home.

She said: “Demand for new build homes is really strong in this region and beyond at the moment. The market was definitely tougher a few years ago and demand for this type of high-quality, modern housing marketed at the right price is extremely high.

“There has never been a better time to buy a new home in terms of quality and value for money.

“Buying a new property offers real peace of mind around not just maintenance but also household bills and affordability.

“This generation of new-build properties are the most energy efficient on the market too, featuring really good insulation which will, again, cut household bills.”

Lisa, 44, acknowledged the biggest handicap to many people taking the keys to their own home in St Helens is still sorting out their financial position but urged them to find out what help is available.

In particular the flagship Help to Buy scheme allows buyers to secure a property valued at up to £600,000 with a five per cent deposit and a 75 per cent mortgage, with the remaining 20 per cent provided as a Government loan.

She said: “Access to finance is still a big problem for some buyers. For every two buyers I speak to, one will struggle to find a mortgage.

“Help to Buy is open to both first-time buyers and those who may have a home to sell and makes reserving a dream new build home more affordable than ever, especially for those struggling to save.

“The scheme has proved extremely popular and was recently extended until 2020 so there is still time to enquire and apply.”
