TWO 17-year-olds have been charged with a string of offences relating to a spate of car thefts across St Helens.

The boys, who are both from St Helens, were held yesterday after police raided an address in Victoria Road, Newton-le-Willows, at around 2pm on Wednesday.

Officers recovered a car stolen earlier this week from Cheshire. Further searches uncovered several other vehicles and a number of catalytic convertors being stored at the property.

Police say they unsure if these items have been reported as stolen.

The two lads, who cannot be named for legal reasons, have been charged with theft, handling stolen goods and money laundering.

They are due to appear at St Helens Magistrates’ Court this morning (Thursday).

The arrests follow a warning issued last week by Merseyside Police urging drivers to secure their vehicles following a spate of van thefts in St Helens this summer.
