A St Helens man was attacked by a gang of teenagers while walking home with his son.

Police say a father and son - aged 56 and 28 - were near the corner of Westfield Street and Kirkland Street, near the Asda petrol station, when they were attacked by a gang of six youths.

The gang, all aged between 13 and 16 years old, were armed with wooden sticks - possibly tree branches.

The father was struck in the face and left nursing a broken nose and other facial injuries.

Following the attack, which took place at about 10.15pm on Sunday, November 30, the youths made off towards Prescot Road.

The father was treated for his injuries by paramedics at the scene. Nobody else was injured.
