Construction students from St Helens College’s new academy gained invaluable industry knowledge on a site visit to local building firm.
The 14 to 16-year-olds are studying BTECs and as part of their vocations options were given a tour of the continuing £5m development work at the college’s Technology Campus at Pocket Nook.
Billy McCormack, site manager at Seddon, which is carrying out the development work for the college, said:, “It was a pleasure to be able to show the students the progress being made on site and talk a bit about the various roles within the construction sector while real-life work was being carried out in the background.”
“I hope we have been able to inspire these budding builders, surveyors and architects to consider a career in the industry.”
Curriculum leader Ste Burrows, who commented: “ We feel it’s very important that the students get a real world experience which reflects their hard work in the classroom. We have students who are interested in different aspects of construction.”
