An auction winner has been presented with a signed shirt after helping to raise thousands in memory of Saints legend Steve Prescott.

After his successful bid to win a signed Steve Prescott Carnegie challenge shirt at an auction held after the Youth Sports Programme (YSP) Golf Day back in May, John Gripton, Director of Manchester-based Exemplum Print Ltd,was presented with his prize at a YSP session in the Beacon building gym.

Linzi Prescott, wife of the late Steve Presscott, along with the Mayor and Mayoress of St Helens, Councillors Steve and Lynn Glover, were on hand to present John with his prize, who was then given a tour of a youth gym session by Sports Development Officer, Mark Jennings - The Lead on the award-winning Youth Sports Programme - to show him how some of the money generated will be used.

Run by Sports Development Officer, Mark Jennings, in partnership with the Steve Prescott Foundation, the golf day raised a total of £2579.68, which will be split between St Helens Council’s Youth Sport Programme and the Steve Prescott Foundation.

Mark Jennings, whose programme has also been shortlisted for the Merseyside Community Sports Project of the Year at next Friday’s Merseyside Sport Champions Dinner, said: “Without the external funding that is generated and in this case the public’s generosity, it would be extremely difficult to run these projects which make a huge difference to young people and the community.

“I’m delighted to announce that due to its success, the Youth Sports Programme Golf Day has been given the go-ahead to become an annual event and planning is underway for the next one in May 2016.”
