St Helens actress Stephanie Davis is set to cause a stir when she enters the Celebrity Big Brother house this week.
The 22-year-old, of Prescot, is reported to be in the January line-up of the Channel Five reality show, and has already set the record straight about her apparent sacking by Hollyoaks by speaking to OK!
I just walked out. I couldn’t bear the thought of staying any longer. I thought I was going to go off the rails. I had to leave for my own goodStephanie Davis
It had been previously stated that her soap contract was reportedly terminated with immediate effect in July after she was accused of turning up unfit to work due to alcohol, but the actress has slammed reports that she has a drinking problem.
Instead, she said she left as she couldn’t bear the thought of working on the Channel Four set any longer.
She said; “I just walked out. I couldn’t bear the thought of staying any longer. I thought I was going to go off the rails. I had to leave for my own good.”
But Channel 4 bosses said her contract had been terminated with immediate effect, blaming ‘lateness, attendance and turning up to set unfit for work because of alcohol consumption’ for the sudden decision.
But Stephanie, who found fame on talent show over The Rainbow in 2010, said: “That was all exaggerated and blown out of proportion. There was once or twice where I went in after a night out, but I was never drunk.”
She previously said in August: “I will hold my hands up and admit I’ve been drinking too much. I’ve been struggling for a while and booze was an escape to me.”
Her exit, the last episode of which was aired in mid-September, reportedly left gaps in the storyline, required urgent rewriting and extra planning to work around the absence of character Sinead O’Connor.
At the start of 2015, Stephanie had expressed her delight at signing a new year-long deal but as she signed off in the final episode she Tweeted to say she had “never been happier.”
As TV pundits suggest Stephanie, who is dating First Dates contender Sam Reece, is to appear in Celebrity Big Brother, she hinted: “If I did it I’d want to change the public’s opinion about me. I don’t like confrontation, though. If there were any mean girls in there it would make me feel uneasy.”
