A 32-year-old St Helens woman has been handed a 12-month suspended jail term after she was caught carrying a stungun capable of delivering potentially-devastating charges.

Samantha Benson, of Sidney Street, West Park, appeared before magistrates in St Helens earlier this month.

She admitted carrying a weapon “designed or adapted for discharge”.

Depending on the model, Night Watch Man stungun can discharge up to a one million volt charge.

The offence took place in March last year.

Benson was ordered to pay a £80 victim surcharge and £85 costs, and was ordered to forfeit the weapon to police.
