St Helens movie ace David Yates back in the North West

Film director David Yates is set to shoot a Harry Potter spin-off trilogy.

Yates, from St Helens, who was in the director’s chair for the final four Potter movies, has been handed the reins to the prequel Fantastic Beasts And Where to Find Them series.

The 51-year-old grew up in St Helens and regularly returns to the town to visit family.

The films are penny by JK Rowling and are based on the 2001 book of the same name.

It is believed parts of the film will be shot in Liverpool and will star Oscar-winning Theory of Everything star Eddie Redmayne in the lead role Newt Scamander.
