A TRAINEE soldier from Billinge came face to face with military top brass during a royal visit.
Junior soldier Lee Marsh was picked to meet Prince Andrew during his recent tour of the Army’s Foundation College in Harrogate.
“I felt so privileged to meet the Duke,” said the 17-year-old. “Most people from my background never get an opportunity like that.”
Lee hopes to join the Royal Irish Regiment when he has finished his training.
The college trains more than 1,200 Junior Soldiers each year over a 42-week course, providing the 16 and 17-year-olds with military training and vocational education ahead of a career in the British Army.
The teenage troops leave Harrogate after a year with a clutch of civilian and military qualifications.
