A St Helens school will be closed next Thursday following a strike.
St Helens Council has contacted parents and guardians of students at De La Salle School to inform them the school will be closed – except to year 11 students – on Thursday April 28 due to proposed strike action by members of the NASUWT trade union.
Letters and text messages to the parents have confirmed that the number of teaching staff proposing to take strike action mean the school’s ability to offer a safe and robust education for all students will be severely compromised.
An exception is being made however for year 11 students, whose forthcoming GCSE exams mean that it is essential they attend school on the day.
The council is supporting governors in their discussions with the NASUWT including a request for a meeting with Acas. It’s believed further industrial action is planned for selected dates in May.
Further details of any proposed strike action will be made public as soon as possible.
