MORE than 600 primary school pupils packed into St Helens town centre to take part in the second annual wake up shape up event.
Pupils from Parish, Queens Park, Holy Cross, St Aiden’s and St Mary and St Thomas primary schools danced to routines and music put together by Stephen Moore and pupils from St Aiden’s.
Twenty sports leaders from high schools also helped to make it a success and the event was watched by more than 100 spectators.
The wake up and shape up focuses on encouraging regular physical activity and the importance of leading an active healthy lifestyle.
The sessions also develop leadership skills in older pupils by encouraging them to deliver the routines.
It’s one of a number of dance themed events going on in St Helens. Others include the St Helens Youth Dance Festival until May 28 in the Theatre Royal showcasing local talent; the Break It breakdancing event on May 28 in Church Square and a Grand Tea Dance on June 2 at the Town Hall with a golden age of Hollywood theme.
