Police are appealing for information after “racially aggravated language” was written on St Helens Parish Church.

It was written last Saturday on the building on Church Square and is being treated as a racially motivated section five public order offence.

Neighbourhood Constable Neil McEwan said: “We know this is a particularly busy area and a lot of young people often congregate in this square.

“We are keen to trace a group of youths who were seen in the area on the day the offence was reported, as they may have information about this incident.

“The language used was very offensive and I’m sure the community would agree that the person(s) responsible need to be brought to justice, so any information could assist our investigation.”

Anyone with information is asked to call Merseyside Police on 0151 777 1571 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
