Police are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the death of an 80-year-old man who was killed as he crossed the road.
Albert Farrington, 80, was crossing the A570 at last Tuesday at around 10.30am when he was struck by a grey Ford Fiesta on the southbound carriageway.
The female motorist was uninjured but was treated in hospital for shock.
Mr Farrington, a retired council painter and decorator, lived in Rainhill but originally came from Sutton Manor.
His wife Mildred described him as a “loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather who was proud to have served in the army during National Service”.
