CHARITY champion Steve Prescott picked up a £2,000 funding boost at the opening of St Helens’ new Tesco Extra.
Store manager Glyn Heppenstall (pictured above with Steve) presented the former Saint with the bumper cheque for the Steve Prescott Foundation.
Prekkie, who is battling a rare form of cancer, will use the cash to help pay for next year’s St Helens 10K race.
Mr Heppenstall said: “We wanted to make this donation to the Steve Prescott Foundation because Steve is hugely active in the local community and hundreds of local people take part in the St Helens race which raises thousands of pounds for the hospice. It was a real pleasure to meet him and present the cheque.”
Customers joined in the celebrations last Monday with complimentary champagne, cake and orange juice when the store officially opened.
The first customer through the doors at 8am was rewarded with a £50 gift card to spend in the store.
