A FREELANCE rugby league journalist is fighting for his life after a brutal assault in London.
Gary Carter was attacked in Bethnal Green in the early hours of Friday morning and is now in a critical condition in hospital.
The 35-year-old was in the capital to report on Saturday’s rugby league test match between England and New Zealand.
While Gary, who works for the Sun, remains in a critical condition, he was yesterday described as “comfortable”.
Writing on Facebook, Gemma thanked everyone for their messages and said: “Gaz has had a ‘drama free’ day. He remains critical but comfortable. His levels have been stable.
“They did try to increase his CO2 levels this morning to test pressure in his skull however it was too soon so he was sedated again. He is still in a medically induced coma.”
A 35-year-old man has been charged with grievous bodily harm and a 22-year-old man was arrested for affray and was bailed to attend Bethnal Green police station in late November.
