A Merseyside police officer has been charged with a misconduct offence over allegations he engaged in a sex act with a prostitute while on duty.

David Gibson, 43, has been suspended from duty and an investigation by Merseyside Police’s anti-corruption unit has been launched into his conduct.

Gibson, who served as a temporary police sergeant, has been charged with misconduct in public office.

He will appear before Liverpool City Magistrates on June 18.

The Independent Police Complaints Commission is also investigating.

It is unclear in which area of Merseyside Gibson served before his suspension.
