Police have been cleared of any wrongdoing over the death of a St Helens man who died in a car crash.
Shane Maughan died after a crash between his Ford Mondeo and a black cab in Burnley on Saturday, November 7.
Immediately after the 20-year-old’s death, Lancashire Police referred the case to the Independent Police Complaints Commission.
Full details of why the referral was made have not been released.
Police said officers had “spotted” Mr Maughan’s vehicle shortly before the crash but denied they were involved in a chase.
A spokesperson for the IPCC said: "The Independent Police Complaints Commission received a mandatory referral from Lancashire Constabulary following the death of a 20-year-old man in a road traffic incident in the early hours of Saturday, November 1.
"Following an initial assessment of the evidence available, the IPCC has not identified a causal link between the police officers' actions and the death of the man.
"As a result we have referred this incident back to the force. If additional information becomes available the force can re-refer the matter to the IPCC for further consideration."
