Person found dead on railway tracks in St Helens
A person was found dead on the railway tracks in St Helens this afternoon, police have confirmed.
British Transport Police received reports of a causality on the line near St Helens Junction shortly before 12.30pm today, Monday, March 1.
Officers and paramedics attended the scene, but the force said the person was pronounced dead upon arrival
No further details about the person have been disclosed at this stage, but the incident is "not being treated as suspicious".
"Officers are working to identify the deceased and inform their next of kin," a spokesman for British Transport Police said.
"This incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner."
National Rail Enquiries warned there were cancellations in the area as emergency services carry out their investigation.
It said: "Emergency services are dealing with an incident between Liverpool Lime Street and Newton-le-Willows. So they can safely do their work, all lines are currently closed.
"Trains between Liverpool Lime Street and Manchester, via Eccles, may be cancelled or diverted until approximately 4pm."
