An allotments in Parr has been awarded a North West in Bloom silver award.

Ashtons Green Allotments - off Broad Oak Road - won a silver medal in the prestigious “urban community” award following a sterling team effort.

Reg Massey, of the allotments committee, paid tribute to a string of local organisations for their help.

He said: “We would like to thank the Church Tavern and Horseshoe pubs, the Lancashire Wildlife Trust, Havana Lane allotments and the Ashtons Green Drive family centre and children’s centre.

“The committee would also like to thank St Helens Council’s highways and gardening departments for keeping paths and gardens in the area tidy, Helena Housing and local councillors Terry Shields, Keith Roberts and Andy Bowden for helping to make this happen.”
