OAP injured in Newton ‘hit and run’ dies

An elderly man who was knocked off his bike by a suspected hit and run driver in Newton has died.

The 83-year-old, who is from Newton, was riding a motorised bicycle along Belvedere Road last Tuesday (February 9) when the collision occurred.

A man aged 50, and also from Newton, has been arrested on suspicion of driving without due care and attention.

He has been released on police bail pending further inquiries.

The victim, who has not been named, suffered serious head injuries at the scene and was taken to hospital.
