NEW leaders have been appointed for both the local Lib Dems and Conservatives.
Councillor Stephanie Topping has taken the reins for the local Lib Dems after former leader Brian Spencer and deputy leader Suzanne Knight both lost their seats at this month’s local elections.
The 57-year-old Sutton councillor, who is fluent in four languages, will be supported by Newton-le-Willows councillor Neil Taylor, who has been appointed the deputy local Lib Dem leader.
Rainford councillor David Monk, who last year backed a campaign against a proposed waste transfer facility, has been appointed the leader of the local Conservative group after former leader Wally Ashcroft stepped down.
Labour now hold 40 of the borough’s 48 seats, with the Lib Dems holding five and the Tories three.
