MOTORISTS are being urged to avoid a main road where gas main renewal work has begun.

Long delays are expected along the A570 Rainford Road while the essential work, which began on Monday August 3 and is scheduled for four weeks, is taking place.

Two-way temporary traffic lights will be in use between Windle Island and the junction with Hard Lane.

Drivers are being warned to expect significant delays due to the gas main work, particularly at peak times.

There will also be no access to Walton Road from Rainford Road while National Grid engineers carry out the work.
