Motorists injured in m’way smash

Six people have been taken to hospital after a two-vehicle collision near the Rainhill Stoops section of the M62.

Firefighters were called to the scene at around 9.30pm on Wednesday, June 8.

Two search and rescue teams were also called to attend.

The collision was between a car and a transit van.

A 28-year-old woman who was driving the car and six men who were in the van managed to free themselves from their vehicles without the aid of the emergency services.

Police closed two lines of the motorway and put traffic-calming measures in place.

Firefighters made the vehicles safe and assisted paramedics in caring for casualties, who all sustained minor, multiple injuries.

The female driver of the car, the 43-year-old male driver of the van and four male passengers of the van, aged 43, 68, 58, 40 were taken by ambulance to Warrington Hospital for further checks.

Firefighters remained at the scene for around 30 minutes.
