Council chiefs in St Helens have opened a new car park in the town centre.

The 10 space pay and display car park is on Waterloo Street near Tyrers and Church Square shopping centre.

It offers more access to more people and is a welcome addition to town centre car parking. Recent figures show that St. Helens is one of the cheapest places to park in the North West.

St Helens Council also operates a Free After Three scheme on Chalon Way, St. Mary’s and Birchley Street.

Council leader Barrie Grunewald said: “The council is totally committed to finding different ways of supporting our retailers in these difficult trading times. The free after three scheme is proving very popular.”
