A sporty Garswood youngster is beating off the bullies as she struts her stuff on the catwalk.

Not only has Jasmine Gorman of Garswood landed herself modelling contracts with three top agencies she will also be representing the borough in the Grand Final of Miss Junior Teen Great Britain competition in August.

This has come as a huge surprise to the 12-year-old who, up until just months ago, was repeatedly picked on for her slender frame.

As a member of Wigan Leisure and Culture Trust excellence swimming squad and a former member of Liverpool Harriers running team, Jasmine has been targeted for her athletic figure.

Therefore mum Rachel is hoping this contest will help rebuild the confidence which the bullies beat out of her.

Rachel, 43, said: “The main aim of this competition is to hopefully give Jasmine lots more confidence - and I think it’s working!

“Modelling is really helping her to come out of her shell and do things which she would never have done before.

“Jasmine used to get called all sorts of names such as anorexic because she is tiny due to exercising five times a week because of her commitment to sport.

“It was such a difficult time for her as she is so young and now she has something to concentrate on and show the bullies what she is really made of.

“She’s just really excited for the final now. And I couldn’t be more proud, I actually think I’m more nervous than her.”

And this isn’t the first time Jasmine has been spotted. When she was just eight the Cansfield High pupil was asked to take part in modelling work.

Now she has three modelling contracts with Bizzykidz, Adora Models and TalentManagement. Rachel insists that she will ensure Jasmine keeps her feet on the ground.
