St Helens MP Conor McGinn says he has been assured preparations for winter are well underway at St Helens and Whiston hospitals.
He said: “I recently met with Ann Marr, Chief Executive of St Helens and Knowsley Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust and the Trust’s Chairman, Richard Fraser, to discuss the Hospital’s work, and how it plans to deal with Winter pressures and the challenges faced from any potential flu outbreak.
“The trust which recently was recognised for its good work and ranked as the best acute NHS Trust in England when The Patient Led Assessments of the Care Environment (PLACE) programme awarded first place to the Trust after inspections were carried out at both Whiston and St Helens hospitals. Local recognition also came with The Lilac Centre being named Pride of St Helens 2017.
“Staff at Whiston and St Helens Hospitals are working incredibly hard for our communities but the financial pressures placed on the trust by the Tories alongside the increased demand on services at this time of year are placing incredibly pressures on hospital services.
“Both Ann and Richard assured me that the Trust is working hard planning for all situations this Winter. This Tory Government needs to urgently recognise that their cuts have consequences and our NHS is on its knees on their watch.”
