McDonalds assault suspect in court

POLICE have charged a St Helens man with assault in connection with an unprovoked incident at the town centre McDonald’s restaurant this summer.

Dean David Knowles, 24, of Willow Road, Eccleston, is set to appear before St Helens Magistrates’ Court today (Wednesday, October 19) charged with a section 39 assault.

At about 7pm on July 7 a 22-year-old local man was left suffering from head injuries after he was punched several times to the head in the busy Church Street restaurant.

After the flashpoint, police told how the victim was punched several times to the head after asking a fellow customer to stop swearing in front of his six-year-old sister and eight-year-old brother.

The incident was also witnessed by the victim’s mother, 40, who had just taken her children on a trip to the cinema before treating them to a McDonald’s meal.
