THUGS robbed a St Helens store as staff prepared to close for the night.

Police were called to the Co-op on Sutton Hall Drive, Sutton, shortly before 10pm on Thursday, August 18.

As the store’s two female staff were preparing to shut up shop, two masked men barged their way in and warned the staff members to stay out of their way.

The duo then helped themselves to cigarettes from a display behind the counter and cash from the till.

Both staff members were then ordered into a back room as the offenders made their getaway - with the stash of cigarettes wrapped in a duvet cover.

The victims were not injured during the robbery and no weapons were seen, but both were left shaken and upset by their ordeals.

The first offender was 6ft to 6ft 3ins tall, of medium build, with a balaclava covering his face.

His accomplice was white, between 5ft 8ins and 5ft 10ins tall, of slim build, also with a balaclava covering his face.

He wore a black tracksuit top with the hood up and black tracksuit bottoms.

Anyone with information is asked to call St Helens CID on 0151 777 6811 or Crimestoppers, in confidence, on 0800 555 111.
