Police have arrested a man on suspicion of threatening people with a machete in St Helens.

Officers were called to Fry Street in St Helens on Monday (June 25) at around 6.45pm.

Armed officers attended and a 23-year-old male from St Helens was arrested on suspicion of possession of a knife, criminal damage, making threats and domestic assault.

Community Inspector Matt Drennan said: "We are committed to reducing and educating people about knife crime, and will continue to work closely alongside our partners to help get this message across, acting on all information provided by our communities.

“If you are caught carrying a knife, you not only risk being put behind bars, you are putting yourselves and others under serious risk of harm.”
