A man has appeared in court charged with attempted murder.
Jack Cartwright, 26, of North Road, St Helens, was arrested and charged after a man was found unconscious in the middle of St Johns Street in Runcorn by officers from Cheshire Police after reports a man had been assaulted at around 2am on Sunday, May 1.
The 32-year-old victim was taken to Whiston Hospital with serious head injuries and is currently in a critical condition.
Following enquiries in the local area a 26-year-old man was arrested at an address near to the scene in the early hours of Sunday morning.
Cartwright appeared at South Cheshire Magistrates Court on Monday, May 2 where he was remanded in custody.
He is set to appear at Chester Crown Court on May 27.
