A MAN was seriously injured after he became trapped between a moving train and a station platform.
Emergency crews were called out to Prescot Railway Station, on Bridge Road, shortly after 9.30am last Thursday (March 17) after a 34-year-old man suffered multiple serious injuries when was hit by a train.
Firefighters rescued the man from the platform gap and he was treated at the scene by paramedics and a doctor before being taken to nearby Whiston Hospital.
After undergoing intensive treatment and a CT brain scan, the man was subsequently transferred to the cardio-thoracic centre at Broad Green Hospital for further treatment.
His condition is described as “critical”.
A spokesman for the British Transport Police said: “We received a report at 9.40am about a person being struck by a train at Prescot Railway Station. A 34-year-old Liverpool man had fallen or jumped from the platform and become trapped between the train and the station platform.
“The train - the 9.08am service from Wigan North Western to Liverpool Lime Street - was just pulling in to stop at the platform at the time and was travelling at about 15mph. There were no suspicious circumstances.
“The area was cleared by 10.24am.”
