Man charged over firearms haul

A MAN has been charged following the discovery of a gun and ammunitions were found during a raid at a house in Prescot.

Michael Carroll, of Johnson Avenue, appeared at Liverpool Magistrates’ Court on Friday (July 13) accused of a firearms offences.

The 33-year-old did not enter a plea.

Police executed a warrant at a property in Johnson Road, Prescot, last Thursday.

Dozens of officers executed a search warrant at the property and found cannabis with a street value of several thousands pounds.

They also uncovered a sophisticated hydroponics systems used for the cultivation of the drug, a hand gun and ammunition.

The items discovered have been taken away for forensic examination.

Detective Inspector Rob Hill, who led the operation, said: “Tackling guncrime and illegal drug production is a top priority for the Force and we will take robust action to put an end to these criminal activities.

“We are committed to taking guns and drugs off our streets and if you have any information about those involved in drug or gun crime I would urge you to contact us. Help us to make your streets safer.

“We will be relentless in our pursuit of those involved and will put those responsible behind bars to stop them from bringing misery to the lives of others.”
