Man attacked outside Sutton Leach chippie

Police are hunting a gang who attacked a man outside a Sutton Leach chip shop before stealing his car.

The incident happened on Tuesday (February 16) at around 8pm.

The 30-year-old victim was getting into his car on Wheatsheaf Avenue when three men approached him before he could close his door.

They demanded his keys and when he refused he was punched and the men drove away in his car, a black Renault Megane Coupe.

The victim received minor injuries and was left shaken by his ordeal.

The offenders are described only as wearing all black, with hoods up and their faces covered,

Following the incident, patrols searched the area for the car and offenders, but they remain outstanding.

Detectives from St Helens CID are now investigating and are keen to hear from anyone who witnessed this incident or anyone who has seen a black Renault Megane Coupe registration plate MK61 UFC.

Det Insp Martin Earl said: “This was a highly unusual incident, especially at this time of the evening, and I’m sure there are witnesses we are yet to speak with as this happened outside of a chip shop at a busy time of night and I would urge them to come forward.

“The man has been left incredibly shaken up. This kind of violent incident will not be tolerated by Merseyside Police and a team of detectives are carrying out extensive enquiries to identify the culprits.
