Man arrested after entering Newton police station with a knife

Police have arrested a man in Newton-le-Willows after he allegedly entered the town’s police station brandishing a knife.

The incident is said to have taken place on Market Street, Earlestown, on Tuesday, October 24.

A man was quickly overpowered by officers.

A 26-year-old was later arrested on suspicion of possession of a pointed or bladed article in a public place.

He has since been released pending a charging decision.
