A man has died after he was found collapsed in the street in the early hours of Sunday, police have said.
The 46-year-old was discovered by a taxi driver on Leach Lane, Sutton Leach, close to Ilfracombe Road, suffering from head and leg injuries.
It was initially thought the man’s injuries were not life-threatening but he passed away on Tuesday night at Whiston Hospital.
A force spokesman said: “We can confirm that, sadly, the man, who was 46-years-old, died at Whiston Hospital.
“A post-mortem examination is scheduled to take place following which a file will be passed to the coroner.”
An inquest is expected to be opened in the coming weeks.
It’s not believed there are any suspicious circumstances surrounding the incident.
Det Sgt Lee Stinchcombe said: “At this stage, we believe the man had fallen and injured himself but if he hadn’t been helped it could have turned out much worse for him.
“I’d like to thank the taxi driver who went out of his way to pick this man up, help him and call an ambulance.”
