A 45-year-old was caught driving down the East Lancs Road in St Helens while almost one and a half times the drink drive limit, a court has heard.
Adrian Edwards, of Kingsway, Waterloo, was stopped while driving a white Citron along the A580 in August this year.
A blood test later revealed he had 111 milligrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood.
The legal limit is 80.
Edwards denies the charges and was remanded on conditional bail until next February.
