Man, 18, arrested over OAP’s murder

A teenager from St Helens has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a 69-year-old man was found dead in a town centre flat.

Police were called to an address in Borough Road at around 9.40pm on Friday (September 13).

The victim was found in the living room of the property suffering from head injuries. Paramedics were called but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

An 18-year-old has since been arrested on suspicion of murder.

A force spokesman said the teenager, who is from the Newtown area, was currently in custody and is being questioned detectives.

Forensic officers are currently carrying out examinations of the flat, which has been cordoned off, and officers are carrying out house-to-house inquiries.

A post mortem examination has been carried out and an injury to the head has been given as the cause of death.

The victim has been formally identified and officers have notified his next of kin, but a force spokeswoman said police were not yet publicly releasing the victim’s identity.
